ADMISSIONS/AUDITIONS

The basic requirements for admission to the Academy College Division are based on both the student’s capabilities as a performer and prior scholastic achievements. Students must achieve grade twelve or be nineteen years of age with an extraordinary level of performance skills. Applicants will be required to play an audition and to take a theory placement examination.

The entrance audition is the most important step in determining if an applicant will be admitted to the Academy. Auditions should be held early in the calendar year preceding September entrance and can be scheduled by contacting the Registrar. Applicants who live at a distance which makes a personal appearance at the Academy impractical may submit an audition tape. All auditions are heard by a faculty committee. All applicants should be prepared to be examined in sight-reading. Applicants are advised to consult with their private teacher concerning the compositions to be played at the entrance audition. Compositions chosen for the audition must be comparable to those listed below. Since the audition repertoire outlined represents minimal requirements, works of greater difficulty may be substituted in any category.
