Bjorn & Lori Hareid Senior Secondary Competition

PURPOSE

The Vancouver Academy of Music’s Bjorn & Lori Hareid Annual Senior Secondary Competition is designed to identify young talented artists and affords them recognition and career assistance. Participants are provided adjudication, a performance opportunity and prize money to assist them with their studies.

JUDGES

Judging will be by a jury of three distinguished professional musicians. The jury retains the right to withold any prize if in the opinion of the judges, it is not merited.

DEADLINE

Completed forms must be postmarked not later than January 10, 2010. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Preliminary

Violin, Viola
Fast movement of any Bach unaccompanied sonata or partita

Cello, Bass
Fast Movement of any Bach unaccompanied suite.

Semi-Final

Standard solo work with accompaniment not to exceed 10 minutes in length.

Final

The six scholarship winners selected at the Semi-Final will be presented in recital on Sunday, January 24 in the Koerner Recital Hall, Vancouver Academy of Music, to select the winner of the Bjorn & Lori Hareid Scholarship Competition.

Works to be performed will be First or last movement of any concerto..

This recital is open to the public.

STRINGS COMPETITION RULES

1.  Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants born between January 1, 1992 and December 31, 1996.

2.  Applicants must be students in grades 10 to 12.

3. A copy of the music must be submitted to the judges.

4. All performances will be open to the public.

5. A copy of the jury’s comments will be mailed to all contestants.

6. All decisions made by the jury are final and without appeal.

7. Applications should be accompanied by a $40.00 registration fee, made payable to the Vancouver Academy of Music.

8. The dates and times of auditions will be assigned according to the order of receipt of entry forms.
